School History
Our story begins and continues with God’s grace! During the 1950’s, a group of Christians in the old Town of Galt began dreaming of establishing a Christian school. They believed that the Bible called them to ensure that their children were to be raised to know God and to serve Him. These parents were convinced that Christian living is best learned from early youth and that parental responsibility does not end with instruction at home. They felt a need for a positive Christian educational system where teaching and learning would be centred and based on the Word of God.
As a result, the Galt Environment Christian School Society was formed in 1958. This Society began raising funds and planning construction of their elementary school. It took many years of hard work, many meetings and long conversations. The Lord provided the present Myers Road location (for $5,000!) and a new school opened in September, 1967. Our Centennial Year project!
Galt Christian School has been in operation ever since! From the humble beginnings in two classrooms, through expansions in 1970, 1975, 1979 and in 1989, the Lord has been faithful. The last addition in 1990 included two classrooms, a new Kindergarten room, additional washrooms/change rooms and a long-awaited gymnasium. We are currently engaged in a new capital project which will provide new instructional spaces to the school along with a new administrative area.
Our school name was changed when the local communities of Galt, Preston and Hespeler amalgamated to form the city of Cambridge in 1974. Our Board of Directors decided to follow suit and had the society incorporated as the Cambridge Christian School Society. The school name was also changed to Cambridge Christian School.
During the 2006-2007 school year, we celebrated our 40th year of operation. A special celebration was held in April. The students dramatized the history of CCS which brought tears of joy and much celebration to the faces of the three generations of supporters present. For many parents new to our school, this celebration became a history lesson on our dependence on God. So many of the stories presented demonstrate how faithful people were blessed in surprising ways by our God!
As we move forward with our calling to provide Christian education in the Cambridge area, it is our hope and prayer that God will continue to bless us as we seek to be a blessing to many Christian families. We strive to be faithful to Him who has led us thus far so that many more graduates will impact Canadian society as witnesses to a higher calling!
